Friday Box Office: SKYFALL Back on Top as BREAKING DAWN PART 2 Falls to Second; PLAYING FOR KEEPS Debuts Outside the Top Five

     December 8, 2012

With only one new release this weekend, the US box office is, once again, dominated by holdovers. And though the numbers for the top five films are VERY close, it looks like Skyfall was yesterday’s clear winner. After spending the past three Fridays in second, Sony’s megahit knocked The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 out of first place, earning an estimated $3.1 million from 3,401 locations. Skyfall is also expected to take weekend honors with a projected $11 million while the rest of the holdovers sink below the $10 million mark. On this pre-Hobbit frame, the weekend’s sole newcomer had to settle for a sixth place. The romantic comedy Playing for Keeps took in an estimated $2.1 million from 2,837 locations on Friday, sending its weekend prospects plummeting to a dismal $6 million. Check back tomorrow for full details.

Title Friday Total
1.  Skyfall $3,100,000 $253.7
2.  Breaking Dawn Part 2 $2,820,000 $262.3
3.  Lincoln $2,568,000 $90.7
4.  Rise of the Guardians $2,300,000 $53.6
5.  Life of Pi $2,260,000 $54.8
