Olenna Schemes In A Newly-Released ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 6 Deleted Scene

     November 11, 2016

HBO has released a never-before-seen clip from the second episode of Game of Thrones‘ sixth season in anticipation of Tuesday’s release of the Complete Sixth Season of the show on Blu-ray and DVD.

The clip, which was given an “exclusive first look” earlier today at the Entertainment Weekly website, is one of four deleted scenes that can be found in the extras-packed collection. This particular sequence features Olenna (Dame Diana Rigg) and Mace Tyrell (Roger Ashton-Griffiths) scheming against Cersei (Lena Headey) while riding through Kings Landing. The scene establishes Olenna’s plans to get her grandchildren “out of bloody prison.”

The sixth season of Game of Thrones won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series and will hit the Blu-ray and DVD formats on Tuesday, November 15th. Both sets include a wealth of extra features; the Blu-ray features even more than the DVD set, including an “in-episode guide” which provides background information on characters, locations, and relevant histories and 18 “lore” features exploring the mythology of Westeros and Essos. The DVD version features three featurettes as well as 13 audio commentaries in addition to the four deleted scenes.

Here’s how HBO Home Entertainment describes the release:

The most-watched series in HBO history and a worldwide TV phenomenon, Game of Thrones returns with another power season. This year, after the shocking developments at the end of Season 5 – including Jon Snow’s bloody fate at the hands of Castle Black mutineers, Daenerys’ near-demise at the fighting pits of Meereen, and Cersei’s public humiliation in the streets of King’s Landing – survivors from all parts of Westeros and Essos regroup to press forward, inexorably, towards their uncertain individual fates. Familiar faces will forge new alliances to bolster their strategic chances at survival, while new characters will emerge to challenge the balance of power in the east, west, north and south.
