First ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8 Images Tease the Beginning of the End

     February 6, 2019

game-of-thrones-season-8At last! The first official images of Game of Thrones Season 8 have arrived, as HBO gives us a glimpse of our favorites in beautiful character portraits (probably with the spoilery stuff precisely cropped). How many will be left standing by the series finale? Well, probably very few. But for now, we can gaze upon the wonderful costuming, and an image of an aunt and her nephew being close, and wonder what is to come.

The final season will consist of 6 extra-long episodes that will “feel like 6 movies,” but that still doesn’t seem like nearly enough time to finish telling this long and complicated tale, especially when zombie ice dragons are involved. A first trailer for the final season also has given us further speculation material on how things might wrap up, and how the power of the Starks could potentially start and end this story. Though we shall mourn Thrones when it is over, HBO already has a production start for its Game of Thrones prequel series starring Naomi Watts, so there is certainly more of this story to tell.

Check out these images of Jon (Kit Harington), Sansa (Sophie Turner), Arya (Maisie Williams), Dany (Emilia Clarke), Tyrion (Peter Dinklage), Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), Cersei (Lena Headey), Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright), and more below … the Mother of Dragons! The Lady of Winterfell! The Three-Eyed Raven! They’ve all come so far. It will be sad to say goodbye to this world and these characters, but also really really exciting to see how everything will wrap up in Season 8.

Game of Thrones returns for its final season on HBO Sunday, April 14th:
