George Clooney, Amy Poehler, and More Join Bill Murray’s Christmas Special

     March 19, 2015

Not enough people are talking about the fact that, this holiday season, we’ll get a Sofia Coppola-directed Christmas special in which Bill Murray sings Christmas carols. That in and of itself sounds amazing, but now the project has added a few more familiar faces. THR reports that George Clooney, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, and Miley Cyrus have joined the cast of the untitled Christmas special, all of whom will be playing themselves.

Murray also plays himself in the project, which revolves around the notoriously hard-to-get-a-hold-of actor trying to evade “a shark dying to sign him.” Murray will sing Christmas carols in the film, and some of the aforementioned new additions will be singing as well (fingers crossed for a Maya Rudloph Beyonce cameo as well).

Further details on the Bill Murray Christmas Special are unknown at this time, and it doesn’t yet have a distribution deal. It’s unclear if this will be getting some kind of theatrical release, or if it’ll go the old fashioned route and air on NBC or something. Whatever the case, I’m incredibly excited to see what Coppola puts together, and these new cast additions only make the project more enticing.

Clooney is currently shooting the Coen Brothers‘ new film Hail, Caesar!, after which he’ll move directly into Jodie Foster‘s dramatic thriller Money Monster with Julia Roberts and Jack O’Connell. As for Poehler, this marks one of her first projects after the end of Parks and Recreation, which aired its series finale last month. She’s poised to return for the now-filming Netflix miniseries Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp and will be seen this Christmas opposite Tina Fey in the comedy Sisters.
