Here’s the latest casting news:

  • Gerard Butler leads Geostorm, writer-director Dean Devlin’s sci-fi adventure film recently picked up from Paramount by Warner Bros.
  • Taylor Lautner is in negotiations to lead Run the Tide, an indie roadtrip picture scripted by Rajiv Shah which will be directed by Soham Mehta.
  • Jane Fonda and Bruce Greenwood are the latest additions to Gabriele Muccino’s Fathers and Daughters, which stars Russell Crowe, Amanda Seyfried, Aaron Paul, Diane Kruger, Quvenzhané Wallis, and Octavia Spencer.

Hit the jump for more on each picture.

Heat Vision reports gerard-butler-geostormthat Gerard Butler leads Geostorm as “a stubborn but charming satellite designer who, when the world’s climate-controlling satellites malfunction, has to work together with his estranged brother to save the world from a man-made storm of epic proportions. A trip into space follows, while on Earth a plot to assassinate the president begins to unfold.”  So Olympus Has Fallen in space?  I jest.  Though Devlin has written for plenty of sci-fi properties over the years, Geostorm would be his feature directorial debut.

The Wrap has word that Lautner is in negotiations for Run the Tide, in which he would play “a man who kidnaps his younger brother and flees for the California coast when their drug-abusing mother is released from prison determined to rebuild their family. With nothing but the open road ahead of them, the brothers race away from a past they never wanted towards a future that could have been as their mother and her ex-husband follow in close pursuit.”

Deadline reports that Fonda and Greenwood have joined Fathers and Daughters.  The film stars Crowe as a troubled father, and Seyfried as his adult daughter who lives in New York 25 years after him.  “Fonda will play the novelist’s longtime friend and literary agent while Greenwood will play the writer’s brother-in-law, who with his wife (Kruger) wages a legal battle to forcibly adopt the young daughter (Kylie Rogers).” Production is currently underway in Pittsburgh.
