HBO Renews GIRLS for Fifth Season

With days to go before the season four premiere, HBO has officially renewed Girls for a fifth season.  HBO’s programming president Michael Lombardo announced the renewal at tonight’s season-four New York premiere.  This really comes as no surprise given that Lena Dunham‘s hit show is a regular award-contender and pop culture conversation starter that generates consistent attention for the network.  Girls is currently nominated for Best Series, Comedy or Musical and Best Actress in a Series, Comedy or Musical at the 2015 Golden Globes, which airs the same night as the season four premiere.

Season four debuts Sunday, January 11th at 9 p.m., ahead of the series premiere for HBO’s newest original comedy Togetherness. Girls also stars Adam DriverZosia MametJemima KirkeAllison WilliamsAlex KarpovskyAndrew Rannells, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.  While there are no details on season five just yet, you can check out the season four trailer after the jump.

 For season four Girls is mixing up the format a bit by sending Hannah to the Iowa Writers’ Workshop while Adam struggles with their long distance relationship, Marnie deals with the complications of her personal and professional relationship with Desi, and Soshanna searches for post-college employment.  Fans can also look forward to guest appearances from Gillian JacobsJason RitterZachary Quinto, and Natasha Lyonne.
