New Image from Alfonso Cuaron’s GRAVITY Featuring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney

     July 15, 2013

Though Alfonso Cuaron’s long-awaited follow-up to his magnificent 2006 film Children of Men finally started production back in the summer of 2011, we’ve had to wait quite a while to actually see some footage from the sci-fi pic.  Gravity will at last be unleashed upon theaters this coming October, and we saw the rather terrifying debut trailer just a couple of months ago.  Now, ahead of the film’s Comic-Con panel this coming Saturday, a new image from the pic has been released online.  Sandra Bullock stars as an astronaut who is stranded alone in space following a catastrophic event aboard a spacecraft.  In this new image we get a look at Bullock and her colleague—played by George Clooney—at work on their space station.  I really can’t wait to see what Cuaron has cooked up with this thing, and I’m looking forward to seeing what will be teased at Comic-Con this weekend.

Hit the jump to take a look at the new image, and check back here on Collider on Saturday for our full recap of the film’s Comic-Con panel.  Gravity opens in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on October 4th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Gravity:

Sandra Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney) in command of his last flight before retiring. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone–tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.
