Much like ABC is going ahead with the Oscars without a host in place, Disney/Marvel is apparently moving forward with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 without a director. Sure, the timing may be off and the tightly controlled production schedule is all out of whack, but with so much invested in the franchise already, the third film is sure to come. Star Chris Pratt confirmed as much, as well as the fact that they’re still working off of a script from recently fired director James Gunn.
Pratt sat down with MTV News’ Josh Horowitz to talk about the state of GotGV3 and Disney/Marvel’s plans to deliver the three-quel eventually. Gunn’s draft of the script was handed in less than a year ago in June and everything looked to be on track for a late fall 2018/early winter 2019 production start; that’s when the wheels came off. Despite fan support, some strong words of support for Gunn from the cast, and the rather manufactured controversy surrounding Gunn’s old Tweets, Disney held firm and opted to push pause on the production rather than risk bad press. However, while they don’t want Gunn behind the camera on GotGV3, they’re more than happy to use his script, apparently.
