Casting Call: Hahn and Roberts in WE’RE THE MILLERS; Jenkins Joins WHITE HOUSE DOWN; Bell to Star in THE LIFEGUARD

We’ve got some quick casting stories to report today.  First up, Kathryn Hahn and Emma Roberts have joined Jason Sudeikis and Jennifer Aniston in the long-in-development pot comedy We’re the Millers.  Directed by Rawson Thurber (Dodgeball), the film centers on “a pot dealer (Sudeikis) who pulls together a hooker pretending to be his wife (Aniston) and two kids to pose as an RV road-tripping family so that he can smuggle 1000 pounds of pot cross country.”  It sounds like a fun premise, especially since it sounds like the nightmare of an over-zealous DEA agents (“…must stop…family road trips…because of the drugs…”).  Will Poulter (Son of Rambow) recently signed on to play the fake son, and Deadline is now reporting that Roberts will play the daughter.  As for the scene-stealing Hahn, Variety reports she’ll play the wife of a vacationing DEA agent.  Ed Helms and Nick Offerman also have supporting roles in the flick.

Filming on We’re the Millers begins next week in North Carolina. Hit the jump for casting news on the action movie White House Down and the indie flick The Lifeguard.

According to Variety, Richard Jenkins has joined the cast of Roland Emmerich‘s action flick White House Down.  The picture stars Channing Tatum as a Secret Service agent who defends the President (Jamie Foxx) when a paramilitary group takes over the White House.  Jenkins will play the Speaker of the House.  The film also stars Maggie Gyllenhaal and James Woods as fellow high-ranking Secret Service agents.  Based on casting alone, I would say Jenkins’ character can’t be trusted because the Speaker is after the Vice President in the line-of-succession (motive!), and Woods’ character can’t be trusted because he’s played by James Woods (Woods!).  Production is set to begin next month.

Finally, Kristen Bell is set to lead the indie film, The Lifeguard.  Per Deadline, “Bell will play Leigh, a reporter on the verge of 30 who abandons her life in New York City, returns home to get her high school job as a lifeguard, and starts a dangerous relationship with a 16-year-old delinquent.”  Who’s the HR person on this lifeguard position?  “Well, I see here that you were working as a reporter in New York City, but you’ve returned home to take a job that will pay you far less money and is clearly part of some kind of personal crisis.  Please, come guard the lives of others.”
