New Featurette for THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG Goes Inside Beorn’s House; Plus New Banner

     November 11, 2013

The recent marketing for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug has been pushing the action scenes hard, but there’s obviously more to the movie.  The marketing has kept Beorn (Mikael Persbrandt) under wraps, and for those who don’t know, he’s a “skinchanger”. Warner Bros. has released a new featurette about the character, and Ian McKellen best describes him as, “A man who is sometimes a bear, and a bear who is sometimes a man.”  This transformation calls for a large house, and the featurette literally goes inside Beorn’s home.  It’s a fun set because everything has been scaled up in order to make the actors look smaller.  They only filmed on the set for a couple days, but I think the scene will be a nice reprieve from spiders, barrel rides, and dragons.

Hit the jump to check out the featurette.  The film also stars Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lilly, Luke Evans, Lee Pace, Stephen Fry, and Benedict CumberbatchThe Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug opens in 2D, 3D, HFR 3D, and IMAX 3D on December 13th. [Update: Warner Bros. has also released a new banner for the film, included after the jump.]
