HUNGER GAMES Character Posters Offer First Look at Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, Lenny Kravtiz and More

     October 27, 2011

Fans of Suzanne Collins’ beloved book trilogy The Hunger Games are about to be very happy. This morning posters for almost all of the major characters from the books debuted for Gary Ross’ film adaptation. We’ve got our first look at Woody Harrelson as Haymitch, Lenny Kravitz as Cinna, Elizabeth Banks as Effie, Amandia Stenberg as Rue, Alexander Ludwig as Cato, as well as some brooding looks at Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss, Liam Hemsworth as Gale, and Josh Hutcherson as Peeta. While half-shrouded in shadows, they still seem to have gotten the looks of the characters down pat with Banks and Harrelson looking positively perfect as Effie and Haymitch.

For those unfamiliar, the story centers on Katniss, a young woman who must survive a televised fight to the death between her and teenagers from other the other districts of Panem. In the post-apocalyptic world of the book, North America is now referred to as Panem and is divided up into twelve districts that each specialize in manufacturing a specific good for the nation, which is all under control of the Capitol. It’s a surprisingly riveting book series, and it’s absolutely ripe for a film adaptation. Hit the jump to check out the posters. The Hunger Games opens March 23rd, 2012.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Hunger Games:

Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games.  Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.

Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy.  If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
