Katniss Readies Her Bow in New Image from THE HUNGER GAMES

     November 8, 2011

I’m still a little surprised at how little we’ve seen so far from Gary Ross‘ adaptation of The Hunger Games.  We got some interesting posters a couple weeks ago, but with the holiday movie season about to go into overdrive, it’s the best window for a movie like Hunger Games to capture the attention of the holiday audience.  Instead, the latest image from the movie appeared in freaking Business Insider.  They’re covering the movie because they project it could make over $700 million due to the book’s devoted following and Lionsgate’s hope that their $80 million feature (the largest budget in the studio’s history) will translate into a major franchise.  The sequel, Catching Fire, is already set for November 22, 2013, but The Hunger Games has to succeed first.  Hopefully we’ll soon see more of the film than just “Katniss Everdeen uses a bow and arrow.”

Hit the jump to see another picture of Katniss Everdeen using a bow and arrow.  The Hunger Games opens March 23, 2012.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Hunger Games:

Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games.  Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.

Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy.  If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
