[Update: Turns out someone goofed and this trailer was released a day early, so it’s now been taken down. We’ll have it back up tomorrow – right here – so for now watch the “trailer tease” below, followed by the official poster via Focus Features.]
Focus Features has released a new Insidious 3 trailer for the upcoming horror prequel. Series scribe Leigh Whannell steps into the director’s chair this time around, taking over for James Wan who went off to direct something called Furious 7, though he remains a producer on this film. The story reveals how Lin Shaye’s psychic character agrees to use her ability to contact the dead in order to help a teenage girl being targeted by a supernatural entity. I’ve never seen an Insidious movie so I don’t really know what’s going on here, and I’ll admit I’m flummoxed by the title Insidious: Chapter 3 if this is indeed an origin story. But the scares look to be solidly crafted, so those in the mood for a creepy time at the movies will likely walk away satisfied.
Anyway, check out the new Insidious 3 trailer below, via Focus Features. The film also stars Dermot Mulroney, Stefanie Scott, Angus Sampson, and Whannell himself. Insidious: Chapter 3 opens in theaters on May 29th.
Here’s the official synopsis for Insidious: Chapter 3:
The newest chapter in the terrifying horror series is written and directed by franchise co-creator Leigh Whannell. This chilling prequel, set before the haunting of the Lambert family, reveals how gifted psychic Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) reluctantly agrees to use her ability to contact the dead in order to help a teenage girl (Stefanie Scott) who has been targeted by a dangerous supernatural entity.
