New Posters for J. EDGAR Starring Leonardo DiCaprio and SHAME Starring Michael Fassbender

     October 6, 2011

We have new posters for a pair of award contenders, and in both cases they are better than your average cut-and-paste-jobs.  The new one-sheet for J. Edgar comes in two versions.  Both feature a closeup of Leonardo DiCaprio scowling as founding FBI director J. Edgar Hoover.  The first version is a straight photo, while the second opts for a patriotic rotoscope.  I really like the typeface they’re using for the promotional material—the loopy signature is classy and iconic.

Not quite as high on the classy scale, Shame centers on a sex addict played by Michael Fassbender.  The new poster wryly hints at the NC-17 subject matter by filling the frame with wrinkled bed sheets.  See all three new posters after the jump.

Armie Hammer, Naomi Watts, Josh Lucas, Jeffrey Donovan, Ed Westwick, and Judi Dench also star in J. Edgar, directed by Clint Eastwood.  The film opens on November 9.  Click here for all our J. Edgar coverage.

Official synopsis:

Based on the life of J. Edgar Hoover, the man often credited with making the FBI what it is today: an efficient, crime-fighting organization shrouded in secrecy. Hoover founded the organization in 1935 and remained director until his death in 1972.

Carey Mulligan co-stars with Fassbender in Shame, the latter’s second collaboration with Hunger writer/director Steve McQueen.  The film opens on December 2.  Click here for all our Shame coverage.  Poster via THR.
