James McTeigue (:’V for Vendetta’ and the upcoming “Ninja Assassin”) has been recently rumored to be one of the names that might reboot the Man of Steel.  McTeigue recently revealed some more info about what he has planned for his “Superman” film if he were to be given the chance.  McTeigue says “”I think if I was ever going to go near Superman, I would do a complete reboot-take it in a direction that you would absolutely not expect, actually,” Sounds great to me. To read what else McTeigue has to say about the Superman reboot hit the jump.

superman_returns_image__3___small_.jpgSo, does this mean that McTeigue will be directing the next “Superman” film?  No, not at all.  This is only what he would do if given a chance, or as McTeigue says “”  So, that would be my thinking on it, if I was ever going to go near Superman.”.  I don’t know what my feelings are towards a McTeigue directed “Superman” reboot are.  I will say that I was on the fence before but he does win me over more when he talks about what his thoughts are towards the film in his interview with MTV: “I think it’s good that they just had a court case where, basically, if you make another Superman movie, you can’t touch Superman growing up-that’s part of the story that you can’t touch any more,” he said. “That wouldn’t be a bad thing. I think everybody’s a bit sick of seeing the origin story.”

I couldn’t agree more, James.  Another retelling of Superman’s origin sounds like the worst possible way to go.  Having said that, I’m curious about what this unexpected direction that McTeigue talks about could be.  I really, really hope this does not mean a dark and gritty film.  If there is one superhero which I think doesn’t deserve this makeover, it’s good ol’ Supes. However, could this unexpected other direction mean a “Superman” film set in the early 60’s with a more classic look and approach to it?  Probably and most definitely not, but when I watch “Mad Men” I can’t help but think of how cool of a film it would be if someone where to go in that direction.  Hell, I even think that Jon Hamm would be the perfect man to wear the iconic blue tights.  Anyways, enough dreaming, lets go back to the facts.

James McTeigue is not confirmed to tell Superman’s story but he is confirmed to be retelling another classic story.  Earlier this month we told you guys about McTeigue directing an adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven” next and as far we know that project is still next for the director. McTeigue’s described his version of the classic Poe story by saying “”It’s like the poem, The Raven, itself, crossed with ‘Se7en’.”  This one sounds interesting to say the least.

McTeigue’s latest film, “Ninja Assassin”, opens on November 25th..
