James Franco to Join Jason Statham in Sylvester Stallone’s HOMEFRONT

     July 31, 2012

Not much is known about Homefront, except that it was written and produced by Sylvester Stallone and stars Jason Statham.  The action-thriller now boasts the addition of James Franco to the cast in a villainous role opposite Statham.  While the logline of the film is your typical fare you’ve come to expect from a Statham movie, Franco’s role as a cutthroat meth tycoon adds a bit more interest to the picture.  Homefront, directed by Gary Fleder (Kiss the Girls), will be produced through Millenium Films.  Hit the jump for more on this developing project.

Variety reports james-franco-homefrontthat Franco will join Statham in the Stallone-scripted Homefront.  As reported, Homefront “follows Phil Broker (Statham), an ex-DEA agent who moves his family to a quiet town hoping to escape his past. However, he finds the town to be overrun with violence, drug traffickers and an evil meth magnate named Gator (Franco). To save his endangered family, retribution is now the only thing Broker seeks.”  Seems right up Statham’s alley.

Executive producer Avi Lerner commented on the casting announcement as follows:

“I cannot think of a better group to put this film on the big screen.  Sly’s script is fantastic, James and Jason are remarkable actors and Gary really knows how direct this type of film. We start production at the end of September in New Orleans.”

When last we reported on Homefront, it was to present this early promo poster from the Cannes Film Festival.  Check it out below:
