James Spader Taking a Job at THE OFFICE

     June 24, 2011

After having one of the best interviews out of the round of guest stars being considered to take over Michael Scott’s job after Steve Carell completed his last episode of The Office, EW says James Spader will end up getting the manager position at Dunder-Mifflin. However, there’s a bit of a twist to his involvement with the series. For those who want to stay clear of any spoilers and not know what’s coming early on for the next season of The Office, we’re putting details of his hiring after the jump.

Apparently Spader, or rather his character Robert California (great name), will snag the job of the Scranton branch manager, but because of his arrogance, ends up deciding the job is just too small for him and using his amazing and intimidating speaking skills, somehow fenagles himself into corporate as the new CEO, thereby replacing Kathy Bates and allowing her to be free for season two of Harry’s Law. However, whereas Bates was only on the show every now and then, apparently Spader will have a significant weekly presence on the show, and that should shake things up just as much as his joining Boston Legal back in the day brought to that series cast.

A source on the inside of the show says, “In the finale, he kicked ass. He was so funny and had this weird energy. We didn’t want to pass it up.” California will apparently demonstrate a manipulative power over the rest of the staff and a somewhat “creepy sexual vibe.” In addition the source says, “Dwight has never come up with somebody equally powerful and diabolical. With Andy, he could be a real father figure and make life really hard for him once he senses he can manipulate him. Jim reads people really quickly, yet wasn’t sure what to make of this guy.” Seriously, with my interest waning as The Office seems to be winding down, this is one way to get my attention back. Looking forward to seeing how Spader shakes things up. Of course, the question is who will take the manager job once Spader leaves?
