jason-sudeikis-raceStarting with Race, that film seems like its finally off to the races (sorry) after replacing lead John Boyega with Stephan James.  Focus Features has also acquired the film for U.S. distribution.  Sudeikis will play Owens’ “obsessive coach and mentor” Larry Snyder while Irons is tackling Avery Brundage, the head of the American Olympic committee who fought to have the 1936 Olympics take place in Berlin.

Here’s the official Race synopsis:

Race is based on the incredible true story of Jesse Owens, the legendary athletic superstar whose quest to become the greatest track and field athlete in history thrusts him onto the world stage of the 1936 Olympics, where he faces off against Adolf Hitler’s vision of Aryan supremacy.  Race is an enthralling film about courage, determination, tolerance, and friendship, and an inspiring drama about one man’s fight to become an Olympic legend.

dev-patel-the-man-who-knew-infinityNext up is The Man Who Knew Infinity.  Per Variety, Patel has signed on as math genius Srinivasa Ramanujan and Irons plays his mentor G.H. Hardy.  This is heading into production after eight years in development so you know writer/director Matthew Brown is breathing a sigh of relief.  The film is being produced by Edward R. Pressman and Animus Films along with Xeitgeist and Marcys Holdings.

Finally, according to Deadline, Weaver is the latest to come aboard Equals.  In the film from Doremus “there is no greed, no poverty, no violence, and no emotion.  But a new disease is threatening everyone: SOS, or Switched-On-Syndrome, activating depression, sensitivity, fear, love — and once a person is overtaken, they are sent away and never seen again.”  Weaver will play Bess, a doctor who helps Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult’s characters, both of whom are suffering from the syndrome.  Guy Pearce and Kate Lyn Sheil also star.
