jake-johnson-untitled-mob-comedyAs Deadline reported, 20th Century Fox has greenlit the buddy comedy Let’s Be Cops from Greenfield and writing partner Nick Thomas.  The plot involves two best friends who pretend to be cops, looking for a little more fun out of life, and accidentally get involved with a real mobster.  This film would see Johnson and Wayans reuniting after Wayans had to exit New Girl after the pilot episode due to his commitment to Happy Endings.  If they can tap into that solid chemistry they had then, they could emerge as a formidable comedy duo for the future.

Also from Deadline came the casting news of Martin in Sexual Healing.  While there have been legal troubles with Gaye’s son, Marvin Gaye III, getting the film off the ground, Sexual Healing can now get underway.  Brendan Gleeson (Troy) is tapped to costar with Martin.  With Martin in for Kravitz, the film is set to begin filming next month in Europe. Martin was previously involved with a James Gandolfini-produced version of this biopic that has since fallen through.  This film is rife with material for Martin to dive into coming from his musical experience with Rent, and director Temple’s extensive background in documentary filmmaking could give him a keen and focused eye in trying to keep the story as true to life as possible.  I think this could definitely be a good collaboration, especially with Gleeson attached to star as well.

Finally, from Heat Vision comes word that Morgan will join Farrell and Hopkins in Solace, which centers on a former doctor (Hopkins) whose psychic abilities are put to use in a serial-killer case, only to find that the killer (Farrell) is a psychic as well.  This realization leads to a tense game of cat-and-mouse.  Morgan plays a veteran FBI agent heading the investigation of a series of grisly murders who recruits Hopkins’ character to help catch the killer.  Shooting is planned for a May 20th start in Detroit.
