Jennifer Lawrence Reveals New Details on Her Comedy with Amy Schumer

     November 5, 2015

The internet nearly broke itself when photos surfaced of Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer vacationing together on Labor Day weekend, so when news arrived that Lawrence and Schumer are writing and starring in a movie together, all eyes were on whether we’d be in for a Terminator 2-style Judgment Day thanks to all the twittering and snapchatting and whatever it is that crazy kids do these days. Good news, though: we made it! Even better: this movie is actually happening and it sounds great.

While it’s still very much in the early stages of development, Lawrence and Schumer have put together a script that will see them play sisters. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Lawrence has now dropped even more details about the film:

“Amy, in this movie, she has it very together. It’s her lifelong dream to be a flight attendant. She works at the airport. And I’m a MESS.”

So that’s a nice change of pace with both actresses playing against “type”, and Lawrence went on to describe how their friendship may translate to the big screen:

“We both have very similar senses of humor, obviously and aren’t afraid, which is a good and bad thing, because I don’t know what our movie will be rated. And we’re both very blunt. So we’ve gotten through a really strenuous process without ever fighting, because we’re both very straightforward.”

An R-rated, no-holds-barred comedy from the minds of Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer sounds like a winner to me. And if you’re expecting some clichéd story about boyfriends, husbands, or finding that man in their life to finally make them complete, think again:

“No, no, no, no, no…There’s not really boys in it.”

So, again, everything about this movie sounds great. It’s unclear when it might actually go into production, but I imagine studios are chomping at the bit to pick this thing up. Schumer is next co-writing and starring in a mother-daughter comedy to be directed by Jonathan Levine (50/50) for Fox, with an eye towards beginning production early next year. As for Lawrence, she’s currently filming the sci-fi love story Passengers opposite Chris Pratt and is in talks to star in Darren Aronofsky‘s next feature, but has cleared her schedule beyond that with her contractual duties to the Hunger Games and X-Men franchises now fulfilled.
