Jennifer Lawrence and the Cast of ‘Joy’ Give Advice for Working with David O. Russell

     December 22, 2015

Director David O. Russell had quite the run with The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle all enjoying busy awards seasons and now he’s trying to keep the trend going with his latest feature, Joy. The movie is inspired by the true story of Joy Mangano, an inventor who risked everything on a self-wringing mop and wound up becoming the founder of a business dynasty.

Over the years it’s come to light that Russell has a very unique way of working so while talking to the cast of Joy, I asked them if they had any advice for an actor who was going to work with him for the very first time. Check out what Jennifer LawrenceElisabeth RohmDascha PolancoDiane LaddIsabella Rossellini and Virginia Madsen had to say in the video interview below. Joy hits theaters nationwide on December 25th. In case you missed it, click here to see the cast of the film playing our movie version of “Would You Rather.”

Here’s the official synopsis for Joy:

JOY is the wild story of a family across four generations centered on the girl who becomes the woman who founds a business dynasty and becomes a matriarch in her own right. Betrayal, treachery, the loss of innocence and the scars of love, pave the road in this intense emotional and human comedy about becoming a true boss of family and enterprise facing a world of unforgiving commerce. Allies become adversaries and adversaries become allies, both inside and outside the family, as Joy’s inner life and fierce imagination carry her through the storm she faces. Jennifer Lawrence stars, with Robert De Niro, Bradley Cooper, Edgar Ramirez, Isabella Rossellini, Diane Ladd, and Virginia Madsen. Like David O. Russell’s previous films, Joy defies genre to tell a story of family, loyalty, and love.
