We’ve only got a few weeks left until Marvel’s Jessica Jones hits Netflix in full, which may very well confirm that Marvel’s true home is on the streaming service rather than on the big screen or basic cable. Certainly, Daredevil made the case that Netflix has the sense to give these projects to stylish, distinct voices with more refined and audacious senses of storytelling than these increasingly mediocre MCU films. And everything we’ve seen from Jessica Jones so far, including a handful of trailers and some other images, suggests that creator Melissa Rosenberg has rebounded from her days of writing those wretched Twilight flicks to craft a unique vision of a largely ignored Marvel character.
The fact that the show is led by the likes of Krysten Ritter (in the title role), Carrie-Anne Moss, Mike Colter, David Tennant, Clarke Peters, Rachael Taylor, Will Traval, and Empire breakout Eka Darville helps immensely, and we get a clear look at many of them in a series of new images released by Netflix. There’s no obvious or major spoilers unveiled in these images, but they give more of a sense of where Jones will be led in her fights with a series of high and low criminals, and, of course, Tennant’s merciless Kilgrave. Like Daredevil, the show seems to be very New York City centric and the locales that can be peeped from the 20-or-so images below suggest that they will readily use exterior locations as often as interiors , from subway tracks to business high-rises.
Most importantly, there’s a lot more clear looks at Colter’s Luke Cage, whose series is currently being filmed and is next on the docket for release from Netflix. It’s still unclear just how exactly the series will handle Jones and Cage’s, er, complicated relationship, but both Ritter and Colter seem to have the chops to pull off the complex depiction that the source material calls for. I guess we’ll find out for sure on November 20th, when Jessica Jones drops on Netflix.
