Award-winning director Juan Antonio Bayona (The Impossible) has been tapped to help A Monster Calls, an adaptation of the children’s fantasy novel.  Written by Patrick Ness from an original idea by the late Siobhan Dowd, the story centers on thirteen-year-old Conor, who wakes to find a monster outside his bedroom window.  It’s not the monster from his nightmares, brought on by stress due to his mother’s illness, but something more ancient, and much more dangerous.  The story was also illustrated by Jim Kay, whose dark imaginings (both in palette and in metaphor) will thrill and terrify on the big screen.

River Road Entertainment, Participant Media, Lionsgate International, and Focus Features teamed up to finance and distribute Apache’s production, which is scheduled for a Fall 2016 release.  Hit the jump for full details.
