juliette-lewis-days-of-maryVia Variety, Lewis will star as a working girl who is optimistic to a fault and is waiting for love to rescue her from her life in downtrodden Reno.  The film will be directed by Brad Michael Gilbert from a screenplay he adapted with Meg McGarry. Of Lewis’ casting in the role, Gilbert said:

“The story is more relevant than ever – the triumph of a hopeful spirit in the face of a broken world. Juliette was born to play this role.”

The Days of Mary is a re-imagining of the 1957 Fellini film, Nights of Cabiria, which won an Oscar for Best Foreign-Language Film and earned a Best Actress award at Cannes for Giulietta Masina along with a special mention for Fellini.  The screenplay was re-imagined once before in the Shirley MacLaine-starring musical, Sweet Charity by Bob Fosse. Principal photography is slated to begin this Fall in the “broken world” of Reno.

Also from Variety comes the casting of Hinshaw and Shaw as racer wives in the biopic, Snake & Mongoose. Jesse Williams (The Cabin in the Woods) and Richard Blake (Dragonball: Evolution) will star as Prudhomme and McEwan, longtime friends and rivals who took drag racing and funny car racing into a whole new world of marketing exposure. Noah Wyle (Falling Skies) also stars as Arthur Spear, the executive who ran with their idea to elevate the sport through non-automotive sponsorship.  Wayne Holloway will direct from a script he co-wrote with Alan Paradise.
