Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx Talk JUPITER ASCENDING & SPIDER-MAN 2; Tatum Says He Plays a “Hybrid Wolf and Human”

     June 22, 2013

Filmmaker Roland Emmerich is poised to blow stuff up real good this summer with the actioner White House Down, and in addition to showcasing what are sure to be some crazy set pieces, the film also features a promising buddy team-up between Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx.  Besides White House Down, though, those two actors are also a part of two of the most anticipated films of 2014, as they each appear in The Wachowskis’ sci-fi pic Jupiter Ascending and the sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2, respectively.

Steve spoke with both Tatum and Foxx earlier today in Washington, D.C. for White House Down, and the two took some time to tease both Jupiter Ascending and Spider-Man 2.  Tatum revealed that he actually plays a hybrid wolf and human in the Wachowski pic, which he describes as “a bit cheeky,” and the ambitious film is being made with “little or no digital stuntmen,” promising another groundbreaking effort from the duo behind The Matrix.  Foxx also teased his turn as Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.  Hit the jump to read on.

channing-tatum-jupiter-ascendingWhile writers/directors Lana and Andy Wachowski have been tight-lipped with regards to the story of Jupiter Ascending, we know that the two have a massive vision for the sci-fi film that stars Tatum and Mila Kunis.  Steve asked Tatum what he could tell us about the film, and he revealed that the stunts are being performed with almost no digital stuntmen, which are CG-created characters used to carry out stunts that would be difficult to capture in camera (think the final battle in Man of Steel).

“We are breaking ground on—I mean it’s a tough shoot.  We’re doing stuff that’s never been done, inside the camera, in the CG world, and the physical stuff.  There’s very little, if not no, digital stuntmen in the movie.  All the stuff is really real and it’s been hard figuring it out because they don’t like doing anything that’s been done before.  So we’re definitely doing some new stuff, so hopefully everybody likes it.  And it’s fun, it’s got some cheek to it.  It’s a cheeky movie a little bit.”

We’ve previously seen some rather out-there images of extras on the Jupiter Ascending set, so Steve asked Tatum about his unique look for the film:

“I’m a splice, splices are essentially built in a test tube.  I’m a hybrid wolf and human.  And half albino, so I’m a little defective.”

“I’m just happy to be a part of it.  I’ll let you know this: Spider-Man definitely has a formidable opponent, someone who really does not like him.”

Watch the conversation with Tatum and Foxx below, and look for Steve’s full interview with Tatum and Foxx on Collider soon.  Jupiter Ascending opens in 3D on July 25, 2014 and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in 3D on May 2, 2014.
