Watch: ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ Video Reveals the Dinosaur Protection Group

     March 2, 2018

In Jurassic World, Claire Dearing was the title park’s operations manager, a role which ended rather catastrophically to say the least. Bryce Dallas Howard returns to the role in J.A. Bayona‘s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom but with a whole new career outlook and a new role as founder/head of the Dinosaur Protection Group. It’s quite the flip to go from “Let’s put these resurrected monsters on display for fun and profit at the incredible risk to innocent human lives,” to “Let’s make sure these poor, exploited creatures are protected at all costs, including the incredible risk to innocent human lives.” This is definitely in line with the film’s reported “animal welfare” approach to the story but hoo boy does it have a very silly feel to it, as revealed in a new video.

The fictional–it is fictional, right?–Dinosaur Protection Group was founded (on social media, at least) last December. Since then, the organization has monitored the possible extinction level event / volcanic eruption of Mount Sibo on Isla Nublar. They’re spreading the word about trying to save the dinos, taking down the corporation that created them, and dropping the occasional factoid about the prehistoric creatures. It’s a fine little bit of side marketing for folks who want to dig deep into everything the Jurassic World franchise has to offer, but it all plays more like an SNL skit than a bit of a billion-plus-dollar-earning movie’s marketing. We’ll see how the DPG factors into the plot when the film opens on June 22nd.
