Irrfan Khan Discusses His JURASSIC WORLD Character; Calls Simon Masrani a “Very Flamboyant” Park Owner with Good Intentions

     December 11, 2014

Thanks to the official Jurassic World website, we know that Irrfan Khan plays a man named Simon Masrani, the CEO of Masrani Global Corporation, the company that acquired InGen in 1998 and brought John Hammond’s dream to fruition.  What kind of person is he?  What motivated him to take that risk?  While being honored at the River to River Florence Indian Film Festival, Khan revealed additional details regarding who Simon Masrani is.

Hit the jump to catch what Khan had to say about Jurassic World.  The film is due in theaters in 2D, 3D and IMAX on June 12, 2015 and also stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Nick Robinson, Ty Simpkins, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jake Johnson, Omar Sy and Judy Greer.

jurassic-world-irrfan-khanAs reported by THR, here’s what Khan had to say about his role:

“I’m playing the park owner, a very flamboyant person. When the first Jurassic Park came out, I barely had the money to see it and now I’m playing a part. He’s trying to entertain the world with good intentions, but sometimes being flamboyant doesn’t mean having much wisdom.”

Sounds like there could be some similarities between Masrani and Hammond beyond being park owners.  Hammond had good intentions, too, but his plan to wow crowds was a risky endeavor to say the least.  It took a T-rex attack to convince him to shut down the system.  How far will Masrani go to keep the park open before the D-rex gobbles up all of his guests?

Colin Trevorrow has his work cut out for him with this one.  He’s going to need to honor the 1993 film while taking the concept to a new level in order to satisfy and impress diehard franchise fans.  Here’s how Khan thinks Jurassic World will stand out:

“For sure it will have more vibe. It’s the Jurassic World of these times, with all the technical experimentation. It has now become a fully-bloomed dinosaur amusement park. Dinosaurs in this film will definitely be scary, but this is not a horror film, so it will be like a scary adventure.”

There isn’t really anything we didn’t already know there, but the combination of the film taking place in a “fully-bloomed dinosaur amusement park” and feeling like a “scary adventure” is the obvious way to keep the material connected to the original film while taking it a step further in the process.
