Katy Perry May Come to the Big Screen in 3D Concert

     January 31, 2012

Following in the footsteps of Justin Bieber and his successful Paramount concert film Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, pop sensation Katy Perry is in early negotiations with the studio for a similar project. Representatives for Perry and Imagine Entertainment are envisioning a 3D concert film in a documentary style that would feature the singer/songwriter and include performance footage. Though no director is in place and no formal deals have been inked, both sides appear eager to work out the logistics. Perry’s fan-following is mainly comprised of teen girls, a demographic that basically controls whether or not a movie is wildly successful (Bieber, Twilight, Miley Cyrus’ Hannah Montana and The Jonas Brothers come to mind). Additionally, the bold visual style of Perry’s concerts definitely lends itself to a 3D feature. Hit the jump for an example.

THR reported okaty-perry-3d-concertn the possibility of a Katy Perry 3D concert feature and, though it’s in the early stages, it will probably be a go as long as her music career remains on the rise. Recent concert films have formed a resurgence, notably the above-mentioned features and the worldwide box office record holding Michael Jackson’s This Is It, which raked in over $260 million in 2009. However, timing seems to be a contentious issue with musical fads going in and out of vogue. While the Disney-related ventures were hits, Fox’s Glee the 3D Concert Movie was incredibly weak; its failings were blamed on Glee-fatigue. If Perry can stay popular long enough to finish a feature film, it’s sure to be a money-maker. Here’s a glimpse of what you might see on the big screen:
