‘Krampus’ Director Mike Dougherty Picks His Favorite Holiday-Themed Kill Scenes

     October 30, 2015

Director Mike Dougherty made a name for himself when his feature debut, Trick ‘r Treat, a horror anthology set on Halloween night that didn’t get much love from its distributor. However, even though Trick ‘r Treat was held for two years and then essentially dumped on DVD, the film struck a chord and wound up becoming a holiday staple with Sam joining the ranks of legendary horror villains. Now Dougherty is trying to strike holiday horror gold again with Krampus, a Christmas movie about the ancient evil that terrorizes non-believers.

With Krampus making its way into theaters in December, I got the chance to catch up with Dougherty at the ScareHouse in Pittsburgh. In addition to chatting about the film, Dougherty also took the time to share his favorite holiday-themed kill scenes from other movies. Check out what he chose in the video below.

Krampus hits theaters on December 4th and also stars Adam Scott, Toni Collette, David Koechner, Allison Tolman, Conchata Ferrell, Stefania Lavie Owen and Krista Stadler. Keep an eye out for more from my visit to the ScareHouse in the weeks to come.

Here’s the official synopsis for Krampus:

Legendary Pictures’ Krampus, a darkly festive tale of a yuletide ghoul, reveals an irreverently twisted side to the holiday. When his dysfunctional family clashes over the holidays, young Max (Emjay Anthony) is disillusioned and turns his back on Christmas. Little does he know, this lack of festive spirit has unleashed the wrath of Krampus: a demonic force of ancient evil intent on punishing non-believers. All hell breaks loose as beloved holiday icons take on a monstrous life of their own, laying siege to the fractured family’s home and forcing them to fight for each other if they hope to survive.
