Sarah Polley to Write LITTLE WOMEN for Sony

     March 18, 2015

Sony has been circling the idea of a Little Women remake for a while now and have finally found their writer in Sarah Polley, who was perviously nominated for an Oscar for her work on the script for Away From Her (she’s also, of course, a damn fine actress). This will be the first theatrical version of Little Women in over 20 years, the last one being the 1994 Gillian Armstrong film starring Winona Ryder, Kirsten Dunst, Claire Danes and Samantha Mathis.

Per The Wrap, Amy Pascal will produce the new incarnation of the film (based on the novel by Louisa May Alcott) alongside Denise Di Novi and Robin Swicord. With that much female talent onboard, you can bet your bottom dollar that the as-of-yet unannounced director will be a woman as well. At least it should be. Check out the trailer for the earlier film below.

Here’s the synopsis for Alcott’s novel:

Grown-up Meg, tomboyish Jo, timid Beth, and precocious Amy. The four March sisters couldn’t be more different. But with their father away at war, and their mother working to support the family, they have to rely on one another. Whether they’re putting on a play, forming a secret society, or celebrating Christmas, there’s one thing they can’t help wondering: Will Father return home safely?

With Polley on board, I’m definitely interested to see where this goes.
