Will ‘Luke Cage’ Premiere on Netflix This November?

     January 25, 2016

With the first seasons of Daredevil and Jessica Jones behind us and second seasons for both on the way, let’s turn our attention to the next hero in Netflix’s Defenders line-up: Luke Cage. The strongman, played by Mike Colter, made his first appearance in Jessica Jones and the actor has been busy filming the first season of his own standalone series to debut later this year. While we’re still waiting to hear of an official release date, a new image posted to Twitter makes us wonder if we’ll have to wait until November.

The official Jessica Jones feed released an image with the caption, “Alias Investigations, how can I help you?” In it, we see a close-up of a couple folders on Jones’ desk, the bottom one labeled, “Cage — November.” Now, this is far from an official confirmation, but it makes sense. Jessica Jones premiered November 20th of last year. With Daredevil Season 2 making its debut in March — thereby taking up our attention for the first half of the year — one would presume Luke Cage will drop in the second half.

When we pick up again with Cage in his standalone series, he’ll be “a fugitive trying to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But he is soon pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city – forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury.” We’ll also see Simone Missick as Misty Knight, a police detective determined to learn the truth about Cage; Theo Rossi as Shades, a ruthless criminal from Cage’s past; Frank Whaley as Rafael Scarfe, Misty’s partner; and Rasario Dawson’s return as Claire Temple, whose friendship with Cage will blossom.

While we wait for an official announcement from Netflix and Marvel, we might be seeing Cage sooner than we thought; a promo for Daredevil Season 2 featured the character’s bar in Hell’s Kitchen, hinting at a possible cameo.
