We’re still a few months away from Netflix’s next Marvel series, Jessica Jones, but the network is showing no signs of slowing down, especially after Daredevil burst out. In addition to Daredevil’s second season currently filming, the network is putting together their next new series, Luke Cage, which will star Mike Colter as the eponymous superhero-for-hire

Cage will be introduced on Jessica Jones, but now Netflix and showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker are putting together the cast for Cage’s show. According to Deadline, they’re already getting top-shelf talent by casting Alfre Woodard in a key role. The 4-time Emmy-winning actress has been cast to play “Minetta, a powerful woman in local politics who will have an impact on Luke Cage’s life.”

In the comics, she’s a “professional criminal and a drug dealer”. If Daredevil is any indication of how villains in these shows operate, she will be spending a lot of time down by the docks.

For those who are unfamiliar with Luke Cage, he also goes by the name “Power Man”, and has super strength and unbreakable skin, and received his powers from a failed experiment. It will be interesting to see where his own series takes him, and if it will be a follow-up to Jessica Jones, a prequel, or a mixture of the two.

No word yet on when Luke Cage will actually premiere, and the success of Jessica Jones and Daredevil: Season 2 will probably also be a factor in slotting the show, but I assume that it will premiere sometime in late 2016.
