A new behind-the-scenes featurette for director Justin Kurzel’s incredible-looking Macbeth has been released online. Each subsequent trailer for the film makes it more and more enticing—especially those that hinge on the intense performances by Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard—and this new featurette is no different. Kurzel explains that the script for this new adaptation read almost like a Western, which informed his decision to shoot in Scotland. And it’s fascinating to hear Fassbender and Cotillard offer insight into one of Shakespeare’s most iconic plays here as well. The main draw, though, is even more footage from the picture, which looks absolutely stunning.
Check out the new featurette below, via Film4. Macbeth will be distributed in North America by The Weinstein Company and also stars Sean Harris, Paddy Considine, David Thewlis, Jack Reynor, and Elizabeth Debicki. Macbeth opens in select theaters on December 4th.
Here’s the official synopsis for Macbeth:
From the producers of THE KING’S SPEECH comes the feature film adaptation of Shakespeare’s play MACBETH about Scottish General Macbeth (Michael Fassbender) whose ambitious wife (Marion Cotillard) urges him to use wicked means in order to gain power of the throne over the sitting king.
