We’ve got a few casting announcements to attend to this afternoon.  Briefly:

  • The Wolf of Wall Street breakout Margot Robbie is looking to add another comedy to her resume, as she is in talks to join Tina Fey in The Taliban Shuffle—though this doesn’t take her contention for Suicide Squad.
  • Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) and Lily James (Downton Abbey) are circling director Lone Scherfig’s (An Education) adaptation Their Finest Hour and a Half.
  • Luke Evans is set to star in Kill List director Ben Wheatley’s shootout film Free Fire, which will also include Armie Hammer, Olivia Wilde, and Cillian Murphy.

the-taliban-shuffle-margot-robbiePer THR, Margot Robbie is in talks to join Tina Fey in The Taliban Shuffle.  Based on Kim Barker’s wartime memoir, Fey is onboard to play a war correspondent working in Kabul, filing stories about militants while also dealing with being a woman in wartime Afghanistan.  Robbie will play a “blond, gorgeous and hard-core on-air news anchor” who becomes friends with Fey’s character.  While Robbie is separately in talks to star in director David Ayer’s (Fury) DC Comics adaptation Suicide Squad, that film won’t shoot until spring 2015 so she has time to complete The Taliban Shuffle first.  The war-set feature will reunite Robbie with directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, with whom she recently worked on the con artist caper Focus starring Will Smith.

Additionally, Deadline reports that Sam Claflin and Lily James are circling director Lone Scherfig’s adaptation of Lissa Evans’ 2009 novel Their Finest Hour and a Half.  The story follows a British movie crew trying to make a patriotic film in order to boost morale after the Blitz during World War II.  Claflin just recently worked with Scherfig on the swell The Riot Club and will next be seen in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1.  James, meanwhile, plays the titular role in Disney’s live-action Cinderella and is currently filming Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.  Production on Their Finest Hour and a Half is expected to get underway next summer.

Finally, Variety reports that Luke Evans will lead the actioner Free Fire, with Armie Hammer, Olivia Wilde, Cillian Murphy, and Michael Smiley (Kill List) filling out the ensemble.  The picture will mark Wheatley’s first film set in the U.S., as it takes place in 1978 Boston and revolves around an arms deal in a warehouse that goes very wrong.  The filmmaker most recently wrapped the thriller High-Rise, which also starred Evans alongside Tom Hiddleston.  Production on Free Fire is expected to begin in spring 2015.
