Platinum Studios to Resurrect ATLANTIS RISING with IMMORTALS Producer Mark Canton

Coming off of the 2011 film adaptation of their comic property Cowboys and Aliens, Platinum Studios is looking to set up another feature that will take viewers under the sea. A previous adaptation for Atlantis Rising had been planned with DreamWorks back in 2008 but the film rights are now back in Platinum Studios’ hands. Attached producer Mark Canton (Immortals) had the following to say about the property:

“‘Atlantis Rising’ has the franchise potential of ‘Men in Black,’ which I greenlit for Scott while at Sony’s Columbia TriStar. I’m looking forward to bringing it to the screen with Platinum as a dynamic, state-of-the-art action thriller.”

Atlantis Rising was originally a five-issue miniseries centering on a 10,000 year old undersea civilization and their disastrous conflict with the surface world. Hit the jump to check out more on Atlantis Rising.

Variety reported oatlantis-risingn the resurrection of Atlantis Rising and the team up between the studio and Canton. From creator Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, here is a brief synopsis of the property:

For thousands of years, an advanced culture has thrived on the ocean floor. Now our world’s pollution threatens their very existence, bringing two civilizations to the brink of an all-out war.

And in Rosenberg’s own words:

Atlantis Rising is a provocative sci-fi thriller that at its core brings up the question: whose planet is this?”

Canton is also a boardmember of Platinum Studios and CEO and chairman of Atmosphere Entertainment, which includes Immortals and 300 in its recent adaptive credits. You can check out a sample of Atlantis Rising Issue #1 here.
