Martin Campbell in Talks to Direct Navy SEAL Film ALPHA for Paramount

     July 30, 2013

After trying his hand at the superhero genre with Green Lantern, director Martin Campbell is returning to the world of grounded actioners.  The Wrap reports that the Casino Royale director is in talks to helm Alpha for Paramount, which centers on a Navy SEAL who is sent to South America to train dogs for combat service.  When the SEAL’s dog trainer/handler is captured, he and the dogs set out to rescue him.  The script had previous drafts written by David Benioff (Game of Thrones), Graham Roland (Fringe), and Carl Ellsworth (Disturbia), but the most recent draft was written by Out of Sight and The Wolverine scribe Scott Frank.

Campbell will develop the project with Paramount and Parkes/MacDonald with the hopes of nabbing a greenlight sometime soon, and his experience on actioners like The Mask of Zorro and GoldenEye should bode well.  So help me, though, if one of those dogs dies…
