Marvel’s JESSICA JONES Netflix Series Lands Melissa Rosenberg as Writer and Executive Producer

     November 12, 2013

Marvel recently announced a deal with Netflix to bring four new live-action series to the streaming content provider, including Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones.  These series, which have the possibility of growing into feature-length movies, are already on the road to development.  Just earlier today, we reported that Drew Goddard (Cabin in the Woods, World War Z) was in talks to pen the Daredevil project.  (Evan wrote up an introduction to that character for the uninitiated, with more to come.)  Now, we have news that the Jessica Jones series will be written and executive produced by Melissa Rosenberg (The Twilight Saga, Dexter).  Hit the jump for more.

alias-jessica-jonesNews via Deadline reports that although Rosenberg was originally tapped to create the Jessica Jones drama series three years ago at ABC, she’s back on board the new iteration of the project set up at Netflix.  “Created by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos, [Jones] is a superhero suffering with post-traumatic stress disorder, which leads to her hanging up her costume and opening her own detective agency, where she ends up helping people and assisting other superheroes.”  The character is Marvel’s relative new kid on the block, appearing first in the 2001 Alias comic.  Jessica Jones will follow up the Daredevil series, and will then be joined by Iron Fist and Luke Cage.  The plan is then for the characters from each show to join together in a team up as part of a chapter-closing miniseries.
