Marvel’s Daredevil is not only the most exciting series to debut on Netflix since Bojack Horseman, it may very well be the most concise and thoughtfully stylish Marvel adaptation to be released thus far. Though there’s no discounting the furious, propulsive fight sequences and the show’s perceptive view of violence, a major part of what keeps the show feeling so tight, even when its storytelling gets repetitive, is the astonishing ensemble of character actors they’ve brought together for this more street-level take on, er, let’s call it excessively costumed vigilante justice. It’s reassuring, then, that Rosario Dawson is set to return as Claire Temple, the hesitant, beleaguered love interest of Matthew Murdock (Charlie Cox) and full-time nurse serving Hell’s Kitchen, according to Marvel.
It’s certainly a relief that there will be some development between Temple and Murdock in Marvel’s Daredevil season 2, considering where things left off, but I have a feeling it has as much to do with Dawson’s character’s relationship to Luke Cage, another Marvel property that is currently being developed into a series by Netflix. Of course, there’s no telling if the Luke Cage adaptation, which will feature Mike Colter as the titular superhero, will follow the source material that closely, and as Colter’s Cage will be featured prominently in the upcoming A.K.A. Jessica Jones series as well, there’s really no telling as to where Claire Temple will land in all of this. Meanwhile, Dawson has smartly been putting in work with Marvel’s main competitor, DC Comics, providing the voice of Wonder Woman in Justice League: Throne of Atlantis, a recent, straight-to-video animated treatment of the DC super team that might very well turn out to be more enjoyable than whatever the hell Zack Snyder is brewing up.
Marvel’s Daredevil Season 2 is set to premiere on Netflix sometime in 2016, along with Luke Cage.
