The MCU Is Gearing up to Announce the First Openly Gay Superhero

     May 9, 2019

Welcome back for a brand new episode of our flagship show, Collider Movie Talk! Today Perri Nemiroff is joined by Mark Ellis and Jay Washington to talk about some of the hottest movie news stories of the day.

First up on the line-up today is, of course, the very first trailer for IT Chapter TwoThe new movie sees the return of director Andy Muschietti with the story taking place 27 years after the events of the first film. This time around we’re getting a Losers Club that’s all grown up with James McAvoy as Bill Denbrough, Jessica Chastain as Beverly Marsh, Bill Hader as Richie Tozier, James Ransone as Eddie Kaspbrak, Jay Ryan as Ben Hanscom, Isaiah Mustafa as Mike Hanlon, and Andy Bean as Stanley Uris. Perri, Mark and Jay pinpoint favorite moments from the trailer and also kick off some early box office predictions; does IT Chapter Two have any shot at matching (or exceeding) the first film’s wildly impressive $123 million opening?

In addition, the trio also discusses a number of comments made by Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo regarding LGBTQI representation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Specifically, they share their thoughts on the first openly gay character appearing in Avengers: Endgame and also the Russo’s comments on Entertainment Weekly’s morning show, suggesting that Marvel Studios will soon announce the first openly gay superhero in the MCU.
