Oren Uziel to Pen MEN IN BLACK 4 and Rewrite 21 JUMP STREET Sequel for Sony

     May 3, 2013

While Sony is patiently awaiting Oren Uziel’s rewrite on the 21 Jump Street sequel, the studio has also tapped the screenwriter to pen another installment in the Men in Black franchise.  Little is known about the logline for Men in Black 4, though the studio was apparently pleased enough with Uziel’s pitch to give him the go-ahead.  It’s unclear at this time just how involved Will Smith would be with a fourth film and there are currently no deals for either Josh Brolin or Emma Thompson to return.  After Men in Black 3 went on to earn a franchise-best $624 million, the studio is obviously eager to get another film in development.  Uziel, however, will have to finish his draft on the 21 Jump Street sequel first, which Sony has already slated for a June 6, 2014 release.  Hit the jump for more.

The Wrap reportsoren-uziel that Uziel has been tapped by Sony to pen not only a rewrite of 21 Jump Street 2, but a treatment of Men in Black 4.  The official logline for 21 Jump Street 2 is being kept under wraps but the report has stars Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill’s characters “graduating from high school hijinx to collegiate crime. Ice Cube is also expected to reprise his role as their no-nonsense boss.”  Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller will return for the sequel, but they’re busy wrapping Warner Bros. The Lego Movie and have passed script draft duties on to Uziel.

Sony is developing Uziel’s monster mash-up movie The Kitchen Sink, which was voted to the 2010 Black List.  The plot centers on a pair of teens who form an unlikely alliance with vampires and zombies in order to take on a army of invading aliens.  Uziel also scripted director Kevin Tancharoen’s Mortal Kombat: Rebirth digital series and has been tapped to pen the Mortal Kombat feature reboot, again with Tancharoen directing.  Lastly, Uziel has been tasked with adapting the Chuck Klosterman novel, Downtown Owl for a 2014 release.
