Limited Paper: Mondo’s Mike Mitchell Gallery Show Opens Tomorrow, Check Out a Collection of Preview Images Here

     April 25, 2013

Tomorrow evening, the folks at the Mondo Gallery will be kicking off their latest one-man showcase, this one a highly-anticipated collection of portraits (the print-count is hovering around thirty, in case you were wondering) created by Poster World superstar Mike Mitchell.  This past week, preview images from that showcase started popping up around the net, and–because Limited Paper loves you very much—we’ve decided to make things convenient for you and present all of these images on one easy-to-gaze-at preview page.  Wanna see Mitchell’s take on Reservoir Dogs, The Thing, Fargo, and more ? Meet me after the jump, folks.

OK, so, this Mike Mitchell solo show at the Mondo Gallery is finally upon us, and—from the looks of things—it’s going to be a big hit.  While Mitchell’s most commonly associated with his long-running (and increasingly brilliant) Just Like Us series, his Mondo Gallery show is composed entirely of portrait pieces.  Thirty or so in all, from what we’ve heard, and everything that’s been previewed thus far looks awesome.  We’re going to present every preview image that’s been released thus far in just a moment, but first let’s let Mondo PR and Mitchell have their say about their latest collaboration.  First up, pertinent info from the press release:

Mondo, the collectible art division of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, announces its next gallery show featuring the artwork of Mike Mitchell which will run from April 26th to May 25th at the Mondo Gallery located at 4115 Guadalupe St. in Austin, TX. The Mondo Mike Mitchell show will feature a series of portraits as limited edition giclees for subjects that range from crowd favorites to characters that are slightly underappreciated in pop culture art. The gallery will open to the public on April 26th from 7:00 – 10:00 pm with regular business hours to follow for the show’s duration.

And what does Mr. Mitchell have to say about his all-portrait showcase?

For the portrait series, I wanted to keep the personalities there, at least how they exist in my own mind. Then apply that to a traditional portrait, something that most of these characters wouldn’t be doing. There’s an ironic sense about them that I like, but I also just really love these dudes for who they are, and I didn’t want to take too much of that away. When I watch a movie and really connect with a character, I often feel a strong urge to draw/paint that person. This show is allowing me to do that, it’s giving me the chance to catch up on years of great characters that I appreciate and admire.

Right on, sir.  Now let’s get to that preview.  Be aware that prices have not been released for these pieces thus far, but as we understand it every portrait/print is going to be the same size:  12×16” (for anyone that shipped two-dozen 24×36” prints to a poster-buddy—shoutout to Mike P!– after the last Mondo Gallery show, this is quite possibly the best news to come down the pike in weeks).  With that in mind, here’s what you’re getting into:
