Miles Teller Says DIVERGENT Sequel to Shoot in April; Confirms THE FANTASTIC FOUR Talks

     October 28, 2013

Miles Teller’s career is heating up, and rightly so.  He gave one of the year’s best performances in The Spectacular Now, he’ll be seen later this year in the R-rated rom-com That Awkward Moment, and then he’s co-starring in the adaptation of the young adult best-seller, Divergent.  It turns out that Lionsgate is so confident in the movie that they’re already looking ahead to start filming the sequel soon after the first movie opens.  In a recent interview at the Savannah Film Festival, Teller said he thinks they’re going to start filming the Divergent sequel, Insurgent, in April.  However, it’s worth noting that the producers and studios may be keeping him and his co-stars in a holding pattern so that he has to keep that time frame available even if shooting doesn’t begin immediately.  Keep in mind that Divergent opens March 21, 2014, and unless it’s a ridiculous hit, the filmmakers are going to want to keep an eye on the public’s reaction.

Hit the jump for Teller talking about possibly starring in the Fantastic Four reboot.

fantastic-four-comicSeveral months ago, we reported that Teller was being eyed to play Mr. Fantastic in Josh Trank‘s The Fantastic Four.  Trank then took to Twitter to debunk Teller’s involvement, saying “the casting rumor floating around today isn’t true…the end.”  Except…it was true.  The actor hasn’t been confirmed, but tells Fandango it’s possible he could be in the film:

“Uh, you know, I don’t know,” Teller told us. “If that happens, if everything works out, then I will be pretty pumped. But then I’ll also be working for … it’s like seven months out of your year. Which is not a bad problem.”

And this is where Divergent and The Fantastic Four clash.  Teller presumably signed a multi-picture deal for the Divergent series, which means it gets priority over any possible involvement in The Fantastic Four.  We already saw something similar with Divergent star Shailene Woodley, who was tapped to play Mary Jane in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but her role was cut and will likely be recast when The Amazing Spider-Man 3 goes into production.  Fox has already set a March 6, 2015 release date for The Fantastic Four, which means production needs to start gearing up for filming in early spring.

I don’t know if Teller would make a good Reed Richards since the reboot is clearly a radical new take where the superheroes will be much younger than we’ve previously seen them.  But if anyone else gets to play Mr. Fantastic, we’ll always wonder, “What if…?”
