Jennifer Lawrence Leads the Revolution in New ‘Mockingjay — Part 2’ Trailer

     October 6, 2015

Lionsgate has released a new The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 trailer for the final installment in the saga of Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), The Girl on Fire. After setting up the stakes with the quiet Mockingjay — Part 1, director Francis Lawrence brings the epic franchise to a close by sending Katniss and her team into one last arena — the trap-rigged streets of the Capitol, where they plan one last grand stand against the tyrannical President Snow (Donald Sutherland). “Ladies and gentleman, welcome to the 76th Hunger Games.”

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2 arrives in theaters on November 20th. The film also stars, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Julianne Moore, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright, Sam Claflin,Jena Malone, and Donald Sutherland. Watch the new Mockingjay — Part 2 trailer below.

The new trailer is essentially a re-cut of the first teaser trailer, teasing the high-stakes assault on the Capitol and the deadly traps that lie in wait. One thing I will always love about this franchise is the way that the love triangle is treated like an appendage to the story rather than the heart of it. We’re not here to see Katniss waffle about who she loves, we’re here to watch her kick ass and dethrone a despot, and the marketing team at Lionsgate totally gets that.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2:

With the nation of Panem in a full scale war, Katniss confronts President Snow (Donald Sutherland) in the final showdown. Teamed with a group of her closest friends – including Gale (Liam Hemsworth), Finnick (Sam Claflin), and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) – Katniss goes off on a mission with the unit from District 13 as they risk their lives to stage an assassination attempt on President Snow who has become increasingly obsessed with destroying her.  The mortal traps, enemies, and moral choices that await Katniss will challenge her more than any arena she faced in The Hunger Games.
