amityville rebootHere’s what horror producer Jason Blum had to say about the planned Amityville sequel/reboot a couple of months ago:

Tell me a little bit about how you guys are approaching Amityville.

BLUM: So Amityville – I love being the underdog.  It’s one of the reason I like making horror movies, because a lot of people don’t like them or are prejudiced against them.  So it’s one of the many reasons I like horror and it’s also the reason I like low budget, because it automatically makes us the underdog.  Amityville I was really intrigued by because people are really cynical about it.  “Oh, you’re remaking Amityville.  I’ve seen it a million times.  What more can you possibly do?”  So the way we developed Amityville was I sat with Franck Khalfoun.  I said, “Everyone is really cynical about this.  Here’s the movie I want to do.  I want to make a movie that whether it’s good or bad, that’s in the control of the movie gods, but I want to make a movie that no one would expect, that the plot would be so different, that would feel so new and weird and surprise people.  And we achieved that! Whether you will like the movie or don’t like the movie, I can’t promise that, but I can guarantee that it’s very different.  So that’s the brief version of the Amityville story.

And it looked like the Wan-produced Demonic was finally on its way, but now that appears to have changed once again.  The film stars Maria Bello and Frank Grillo and revolves around the aftermath of a horrific massacre where five college students were brutally murdered inside an abandoned home.  Bello and Grillo play a psychologist and a detective, respectively, who question the survivors about the events.  Wan produced the film alongside Lee Clay (Beautiful Boy), while Will Canon (Brotherhood) directed based on an original idea from Wan.

Meanwhile, The Age of Adaline follows the miraculous life of 29-year old Adaline, who stops aging after recovering from a near-fatal accident.  Over the course of the 20th century she embarks on an epic but isolated worldwide journey keeping her secret until she meets a man who forever alters her life.

Here’s the official synopsis for Mortdecai:

Juggling some angry Russians, the British Mi5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist, debonair art dealer and part time rogue Charlie Mortdecai (Depp) must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.
