There’s a scene in 1979’s The Muppet Movie where Kermit the Frog and Fozzie Bear pass Big Bird walking down the road. Ever the Samaritan, Kermit offers to give him a ride, but Big Bird passes them up. “I’m on my way to New York City, to try and break into public television!” he says.
The reference, of course, was to Sesame Street, now in its 45th season (!), which brings educational content to children via the use of Jim Henson‘s Muppets. But with the original Muppets back in the spotlight thanks to two recent movies, Kermit and the gang are now getting in to Big Bird’s business of chatting with kids and teaching them valuable lessons.
Disney has announced that the Muppets will be starring in a new short-form series called Muppets Moments, which is “a series of amusing conversations between Muppets and young kids about everyday topics including ‘apologies,’ ‘favorite foods’ and ‘manners.’ Four shorts will kick things off Friday, April 3rd (running at (8:25 a.m., 8:55 a.m., 9:25 a.m. and 9:55 a.m., ET/PT) on Disney Junior, with new shorts airing daily through May 8th. Episodes will continue to air throughout 2015, and will be available online as well on WATCH Disney Junior.
Kermit himself weighed in on the subject, saying,
In show business, they say never work with kids or animals. Well, on ‘Muppet Moments’ we break both those rules and a lot more – and the results are fun, silly, and even inspiring.
In a press release for the upcoming series, Disney Junior promises that
In addition to Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and Fozzie Bear, “Muppet Moments” will feature appearances by The Great Gonzo, Animal, Beaker, Dr. Bunsen Honeydew, Rowlf, Bobo, The Newsman, Rizzo, Sam Eagle and Pepe the King Prawn.
Here’s a clip of the new series, which, yeah, is definitely for kids (who really like healthy food, apparently):
