MUPPETS: New TV Series Posters Highlight Kermit, Fozzie Bear, and Miss Piggy

     July 27, 2015

Momentum and anticipation for ABC’s revival of The Muppets continues to rev up, and now ABC has released a set of poster for the series meant to transition fans into a more modern take on The Muppets. The posters, which feature Kermit, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, and Miss Piggy indulging in very fame-centric activities, suggest that the show will work like a critique or parody of the modern television landscape and, especially, reality programming. They might even push their parodies too far – it’s all well and fine to see Gonzo making a cellphone call, but I needed to see Fozzie Bear getting waxed like I need a new Gavin Rossdale solo record. Still, even the sight of my most beloved muppet’s bare-skinned back isn’t enough to quell my excitement for what The Muppets, which will reportedly have a similar tone as The Office, could be. The fact that ABC has given a second season to black-ish, the best sitcom on television, also shows a want in ABC to do more genuinely funny programming with ever-so-slightly more wise sense of humor, which the original Muppets had at least a marginal hand in popularizing.

Here’s the official synopsis:

The Muppets return to prime time with a contemporary, documentary-style show that—for the first time ever—will explore the Muppets’ personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work, as well as romances, break-ups, achievements, disappointments, wants and desires; a more adult Muppet show, for kids of all ages.

The Muppets will premiere on ABC on Tuesday, September 22nd.
