     November 18, 2010

Today at a random time, Mondo will be selling its newest Star Wars poster, “A Wretched Hive” by Martin Ansin.  The poster depicts good times with arm-loss in the Mos Eisley Cantina.  Also, jawas!

There are two versions of the poster, both measuring 24″x36″.  The regular “copper” version is an edition of 360 and costs $50.  There’s also the “silver” variant done with metallic inks which is limited to an edition of 150 and costs $85.  Hit the jump to check out both posters along with a statement from Ansin about the piece.  Be sure to follow @MondoNews on Twitter for the official announcement of when the posters will be available for sale.

Here’s what Ansin had to say about his poster:

“I’ve always liked that scene in Reign Of Fire where these post-apocalyptic survivors re-enact Star Wars scenes for their children; in the future, the stories that we really like have become legends. For this poster I tried to do something similar, but in the opposite direction in time. I wanted to see how the cantina scene would look if it had been illustrated for an old book, if Star Wars was a traditional epic adventure sharing space with King Arthur and Beowulf. Who knows, maybe sometime in the future it will.”

And for those who don’t know about Mondo:

Mondo is the Alamo Drafthouse’s collectible art boutique, featuring designs from world famous artists based on licenses for popular TV and Movie properties including Star Wars, Star Trek & Universal Monsters. The posters are limited edition & screen printed.  The posters sell out at AMAZING speed.
