Walt Disney Animation Studios has been on a creative uptick as of late, and starting with Tangled on up through Wreck-It Ralph and Frozen, they started to surpass the quality of sister studio Pixar. 2014 gave us Big Hero 6, and while 2015 will be devoid of a Disney Animation film, 2016 gives us two: the Dwayne Johnson-fronted musical Moana and the animal-centric Zooptopia, for which a new image has been unveiled.
Directed by Byron Howard (Tangled) and Rich Moore (Wreck-It Ralph), the 48 Hrs.-esque buddy comedy Zootopia takes place in the titular city and revolves around Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman), a sly con-artist fox who finds himself framed for a crime he didn’t commit. Bunny Lt. Judy Hops (Ginnifer Goodwin) is tasked with tracking him down, but when both end up framed for the crime, they are reluctantly forced to team up.
The buddy comedy scenario worked well for Pixar in the past with Toy Story, so it’ll be interesting to see how it’s twisted in this new film. This new picture doesn’t really tell us much, but it hopefully means a teaser trailer will be arriving shortly—probably timed to next week’s release of Pixar’s Inside Out.
