New NIGHTINGALE Trailer Gives a Peek At David Oyelowo’s Commanding Performance

     May 7, 2015

Nightingale is a one-man play come to life, as David Oyelowo (Selma) portrays a war veteran who becomes a prisoner of his own mind, and unravels completely over the course of the film’s 80 minute run. This bold filmic concept also has a great story behind it, as it was conceived of by first-time writer Frederick Mensch, who submitted it to, where it caught the attention of Josh Weinstock. Now, directed by Elliott Lester and produced by Brad Pitt, Nightingale comes to HBO starring the fantastic David Oyelowo. You’re living the dream, Mensch.

HBO describes the film as “a searing story of solitude and isolation [that] offers a poignant look at how life has failed one man.” The new trailer gives some indication of those depths, but all that is known for sure is that Oyelowo’s performance is sure to be a tour de force.

When watching the trailer for Nightingale, all I can think about is how The Last Man on Earth could have benefitted from being audacious enough to let its lead be alone on screen for longer. Alas!

You can check out the trailer below. Nightingale premieres Friday May 29th at 9 p.m. on HBO
