‘Now You See Me 3’ Brings Back Director Jon M. Chu

     April 18, 2016

Now that The Hunger Games is done, Lionsgate needs franchises, and it believes it has a successful one with the Now You See Me movies. We’re still two months away from Now You See Me 2, but Variety reports that the studio has brought back director Jon M. Chu for Now You See Me 3, which shows a lot of faith in both Chu and the franchise. Based on the trailers, that’s a little surprising, since it doesn’t seem like Chu is doing anything drastically better than what Louis Leterrier did on the first movie where the “magicians” are basically just superheroes who can do anything with the power of CGI.

There are no plot details yet for Now You See Me 3, but maybe Chu already has something in mind, which makes him a more enticing choice for the sequel as opposed to other directors. Chu’s previous credits include Step Up 2: The Streets, Step Up 3D, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and Jem and the Holograms. Hopefully, he’s got a trick up his sleeve to make Now You See Me a more exciting franchise than the first movie led us to believe. He already has the dynamite cast.

Now You See Me 2 opens June 10th, and stars Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Lizzy Caplan, Daniel Radcliffe, Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine.

Here’s the official synopsis for Now You See Me 2:

THE FOUR HORSEMEN [Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Lizzy Caplan] return for a second mind-bending adventure, elevating the limits of stage illusion to new heights and taking them around the globe. One year after outwitting the FBI and winning the public’s adulation with their Robin Hood-style magic spectacles, the illusionists resurface for a comeback performance in hopes of exposing the unethical practices of a tech magnate. The man behind their vanishing act is none other than WALTER MABRY [Daniel Radcliffe], a tech prodigy who threatens the Horsemen into pulling off their most impossible heist yet. Their only hope is to perform one last unprecedented stunt to clear their names and reveal the mastermind behind it all.
